Present: Jeff Stack, Zora Serfozo, Amanda Coggeshall, Steve Bartel, Virginia Bzdek

Opening Questions:

  1. How was the Moratorium Campaign started and when? Missouri received a grant to attend an Equal Justice 3-day retreat in New York, in November 2003. There attendees set up long term plans to help their states move towards a moratorium on executions.
  2. Does the Moratorium Campaign have lobbyists in Jefferson City? Yes, through the support of Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty, Jeff Stack lobbies for this and other death penalty issues.
  3. How many people support the death penalty and how many support a moratorium? 70% of voters support the death penalty, but 60% also support a moratorium.

Comments:

  1. At this point about 23 entities in Columbia-- churches, groups, businesses have passed resolutions. We ultimately hope to get 100 from our town.
  2. Translate the brochures into Spanish? Individuals will continue to explore the possibility.
  3. Have moratorium campaign members participate in phone conferences with other Missouri sites? Dates/Times for those calls?
